Minister and Staff

Minister

Our Minister, the Rev. Dr. Stephen Furrer, was called to serve our congregation in August 2000. Rev. Furrer was ordained to the Unitarian Universalist Ministry by the Los Gatos Unitarian Fellowship in December 1979. He has served UU congregations in California and the Northeast, arriving here from Binghamton, New York.

Steve is a sixth generation Unitarian Universalist, having grown up as a member of the Shaker Heights, Ohio Unitarian Church. He is a graduate of Hamilton College (Clinton, NY) where he studied history and political science, but also (as he put it) “became fascinated with religion.” Following college graduation Steve went to Washington, DC, where he worked in the US House of Representatives. “this was during the Watergate imbroglio,” he writes, “for which I had a ringside seat. But it made clear to me that government or politics was not where I wanted to invest my life energy.” In September 1974 Steve enrolled at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, from which he graduated in May 1977. Steve has also earned a Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Counseling from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

A Note From Pat

Just a reminder that my office hours are 9-12 Monday through Thursday. These are the hours I am available for business, not the only hours I work. Sunday is the most chaotic day in the office and I cannot always find time to attend to all needs. I would appreciate it if you need something that might take me time to find, copy, or discuss with you if you would call ahead and let me arrange a time that isn’t in conflict with other meetings or responsibilities.
