Religious Education Program
The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Santa Fe has a strong commitment to families, and programs are available at 11:30 am on Sunday mornings for children and youth of all ages. Infants and toddlers are welcome in the nursery and classes are held for students in preschool through high school.
What Will My Children Learn?
The purpose of Religious Education at UUCSF is to nurture and affirm each individual’s sense of identity, self-esteem and tolerance. To do this we incorporate the study of our cultural and religious heritage, world religions, moral values and social responsibility. We promote the development and redefinition of each individual’s own religious values while encouraging a feeling of community and fellowship with members of all ages. Personal exploration of each individual’s spirituality is integrated throughout the program.
A Cooperative Religious Education
All of our classes and activities for children and youth are cooperative ventures. Our teachers are volunteers who give 12 to 30 Sundays each year to meet with our children. Parents and guardians commit to 5 or 6 Sundays as classroom assistants and sign up to provide snacks twice each year.
Health and Safety
For the safety and well-being of our children the Religious Education Committee:
- Asks for written notice of allergies or other health concerns.
- Requires two or more adults in each classroom.
- Expects parent or guardian will supervise children before and after RE classes.
- Requires that those who volunteer in the RE program be members or friends known to us for at least one year.
- Will begin quarterly fire drills this fall with clear evacuation plans.
All Are Welcome Here
In the spirit of the Unitarian Universalist principles, we wish to provide a welcoming environment to every child and youth in our Religious Education program and to their families. This involves openly affirming both traditional and non-traditional family structures in all of their variety. We strive to incorporate curriculum resources which help our students value diversity and which strengthen them to stand against prejudice in its many forms. Community building and social action are an integral part of programs at every age.
