About Santa Fe UUWF

Our UUWF in Santa Fe is one of the largest and most active groups in the country and we invite all women to attend our monthly meetings and find out why!

Most importantly, we want to get to know you. And our informal, friendly luncheons held every third Saturday from September to May provide and enhance such an opportunity. Each month these meals--preceded by a social gathering-- are home-cooked and served by various UUWF members (everyone volunteers!) and then followed by a brief business meeting and a program.

We also have an annual weekend retreat, usually held at Ghost Ranch in May, and focusing on a particular topic of interest. This is a perfect chance to get better acquainted and share with compatible women as we learn and hike together, as well as relax and enjoy nature's lovely setting.

Being a member of the UUCSF does not make you a member of UUWF. We are affiliated with both the congregation and the national UUWF organization. That group receives a portion of our $20 annual dues (due by November) and provides support to women’s causes at a more expansive level than we might offer at home. Here in Santa Fe, however, we make a yearly substantial monetary donation to several community programs which help women. In addition, we provide a Christmas gift directed to local shelters for women and their children.

On top of our dues, our monthly meeting fee is $7.00 for members and $9.00 for guest. This covers the cost of the meal, program and annual gifts to charity.

All women and their guests are welcome at our meetings, regardless of UUWF/UUCSF membership. We hope to see YOU at our next meeting!

Women’s Federation Program September 18

If you had been walking down the street in 1896 and saw someone wearing a golden bow on her lapel, you might have raised your hand and said, “Be Fuller, like Margaret! Be brighter, like Margaret!” The yellow bow was a symbol of the Fuller clubs, named in honor of Margaret Fuller, their inspiration. Fuller Club women had been committed to exercising their own minds ever since Margaret began gathering women into “conversation circles” in Concord forty years earlier. You might call them the first consciousness-raising groups, asking such questions as “What are women born to do? To be ?”

Join us at our opening UUWF meeting on Saturday, September 18, and learn more about this brilliant woman who is an important part of our UU heritage. This year marks the 200th anniversary of her birth. Speaking of the first woman to be admitted to the elite trans- cendental circle, Emerson paid her the highest (if patronizingly self- satisfied) compliment, “She thinks like a man.” We’ll be introducing you to this “manly thinker” and to her prematurely and tragically ended life.

Come at 11:30 for Happy Half-Hour. Lunch is at noon, the program begins at 1 pm, and we adjourn by 2 pm. We offer a special welcome to women new to our congregation. Attending regularly is a wonderful way to get connected. The cost of luncheon is $ 7 for members and $9 for visitors. To make a reservation for the September 18 luncheon contact Juniper Stein-Catanach at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Reservations help the cooks know how much to prepare! You may also contact Juniper to arrange transportation to the meeting.

UUWF Charitable Giving!
